Photo plugin'

Sorry about the pun, but it is nearly Christmas.

One of the MANY things I am quite partial to is Photography and I have been following a French chap called Serge Ramelli for a while now. I have learned a fair bit from him and he has asked that I spread the word. So...

Check out Serge Ramelli's Youtube channel! He has over 400 tutorials on photography, he is the number channel on Lightroom worldwide. If you want great tricks and tips photography check him, out! https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=cmoeu

Too hot to photo today...

Instead I thought I'd put together a video of my 3D rig in action and some of the outputs. There is even an app that controls all the rig function but also calculates all of the 3D geometry for you as well, warning you to possible issues like motion blur and speed limits on the buggy.

Overall, I'm particularly proud of my contraption, now I just need a way to make some money from it, 3D family portrait anyone? :)

Anyhow, enough jibber jabber, here is the video. You will need red/blue 3d glasses to see the anaglyphs later in the video.

The Poor Man's Geotagger

When researching for a location shoot, I spend a lot of time on Google maps looking for places to park, or the easiest walk or even for somewhere to go shoot. Street View allows for a pretty good idea of a place before you get there (admittedly it doesn't help if you want to go be in the middle of a field, but I digress).

The problem I find then is managing the list of places I want to go and check out. Sure you can write them down on a bit of paper, but my hand writing is pants. You can print out your map but that's quite time consuming to get right... Then when you get to the locations, but move down the road a bit... so... I need something to manage a list of locations... with SatNav capability and sharing...

I've got an (android only) app for that.

Movie making from photos

I have never really been any good with video. Sure I reckon I can get one of those steadycam things and make it look professional, but I'm not really all that clever to think out a story, and then break it into bits to shoot. Photography is much more a single moment in time thing, where the viewer can use more of their imagination (so I don't have to).

I've been out and about the last week or so, and while the sun has been about now and then it is the wind that has really caught my attention. Dabbling in a bit of timelapse was a load of fun and accidentally I seemed to have a few bits to put into a short story. More an intro to a movie. really. So, working in reverse from the music, to the effects in the scenes, this popped out today.

Watch the full screen HD version if you can.

Is there life on Mars?

There is evidence that there used to be, but it's all dead now.

What about water then? Well, yes but it's all in the form of ice at the polar caps.

Do you shoot JPEGs?

If someone wants it, I can get to it and it is legal, then I'll shoot it. Here you go:

Katy, Raphy and the trip up North

Having parents from the land of Geordies yet being born in Exeter and living in London, Oxford and Milton Keynes most of my life I would have thought I would have been a little less excited about a trip to the North. However in a recent work trip to Leeds that involved months of Madras training and elocution lessons I was quite surprised at the excitement I felt when I got to the train station, asked the man in the info booth how to get my hotel, and he answered with an awesome Yorkshire accent. I blame the altitude.
